Our take

Layton Exclusif crowds an enormous number of notes into one bottle, almond, citrus, watery notes and apple up top, civet, rose, gardenia and cinnamon in the heart, then oud, coffee, vanilla, patchouli and leather in the base, and the result can feel like it's trying to do everything at once rather than committing to one clear idea. Hamid Merati-Kashani leans on almond and vanilla to hold the whole sprawling structure together.

What saves it is that the almond-amber thread never lets go, sweet and slightly powdery from the first spray through to the coffee-and-oud drydown. Civet in the heart adds a warm, animalic undertone alongside the sweetness, and pink pepper gives it a little bite against all that vanilla.

Projection has real reach here, noticed by people nearby well before you'd need to say anything, and it sticks around stubbornly once it's down to the amber and oud base. It's built to be noticed, not a quiet, polite scent for a small room.

The crowded note list means it never fully escapes feeling assembled from pieces of other genres, not a single unified idea, though the execution is polished enough to mostly get away with it. Wear it in cold weather, somewhere it can fill a room properly, and let the almond and oud do the heavy lifting.
