Our take

Abanthe is a leather fragrance for the man who wants his presence felt through texture rather than volume. The opening pairs apricot with tea leaf and bergamot, but this is not a bright morning scent. The fruit arrives soft and slightly dried, more like the skin of the apricot than the juice, and the tea leaf pulls it toward something earthy. It is an entrance that feels deliberate, choosing warmth over freshness from the very first moment.

The heart reveals hibiscus and jasmine surrounding a firm leather note. The flowers do not turn this into a soft composition. They add a faint powder that makes the leather feel lived in, like an old chair in a wood-paneled room. The leather here is dry and aromatic, supported by the green edge of the tea that lingers from the top. It creates a specific atmosphere that is refined without trying to be flashy.

The base is where the argument settles. Oud, frankincense, sandalwood, and white musk build a resinous foundation that feels heavy and solemn. This is clearly intended for cooler weather and formal settings where a serious tone is appropriate. The frankincense gives the blend a church-like stillness that pairs naturally with the dark wood and the musk, creating a finish that is deeply traditional.

The limitation is the apricot. While it prevents the leather and oud from becoming too severe, it also introduces a sweetness that can feel slightly out of place against the frankincense. The fruitiness never quite integrates with the resin, leaving a small gap in the composition where the warmth turns a bit confused.
