Juniper berries add a cool, slightly resinous lift that keeps the opening from leaning too hard into kitchen spice. As the top notes settle, hinoki wood and thyme step in with a dry, herbal texture that feels more like stepping into a sauna than walking past a bakery. Star anise gives the heart a gentle licorice whisper that deepens the wood without turning sweet.
The base pulls toward guaiac wood and cedar, creating a dry, slightly smoky plank that grounds the earlier brightness. Tonka bean is present but restrained, offering a mild warmth that never becomes a dessert accord. This is a modern masculine scent that prioritizes clarity over density, and it carries a polished, barbershop-adjacent finish that suits a button-down shirt as easily as a weekend jacket.
Where it stumbles is the anise. Star anise is a demanding note, and here it sits prominently enough that anyone who dislikes licorice will find the entire wear uncomfortable. It is not a background seasoning, and it does not fade into the wood. If that specific spice reads medicinal to your nose, the rest of the composition will not win you over.
