Pour Lui opens with a brisk, almost tart snap of green apple and mandarin, the citrus quickly softened by a surprisingly authentic tea note that feels like steamed jasmine rice in a bamboo basket. There is a peculiar, lightweight sweetness here right from the start, as if the cotton flower and lotus in the heart are already stretching upward into the top notes, blurring the line between freshness and a powdery, almost ozonic cloud. Christophe Raynaud built this like a sheer summer shirt you can see through: transparent, clean, but with an odd sugary seam running through the weave. The drydown is where it gets interesting and also where it loses its nerve. Hazelnut and cotton candy try to ground the composition with a nutty, confectionary warmth, but the tonka bean is timid and the whole base feels like a whisper instead of a handshake.
The overall character is that of a greenhouse at dawn: damp bamboo leaves, a single lotus flower floating in still water, and someone nearby eating a sugary pastry you can almost smell but never taste. It is unmistakably woody floral musk, but marketed for men in a way that feels more like a gentle suggestion than a declaration.
