Our take

Babēl does not open with an easy welcome. The black pepper and cardamom hit first with a rough, dry heat that can feel sharp if you expect a smooth entrance. Bergamot sits underneath to brighten the spice, but it never softens the edges enough to make the start feel gentle.

Once the top notes settle, the heart reveals a green and powdery character. Violet leaf adds a crushed-leaf freshness that keeps the florals from feeling heavy. Geranium brings a clean, slightly herbal edge, while iris and ylang-ylang introduce a soft, root-like sweetness. The mix feels deliberate rather than decorative, as if the flowers were chosen to support the structure instead of leading it.

The base pulls the composition toward something warm and resinous. Vetiver and cedar give a dry woodiness that anchors the benzoin and vanilla, while cashmeran adds a smooth, synthetic haze. It suits a dim room where the air is cool and the night feels quiet, or a street lit by streetlamps after the evening air has turned crisp. The result is an aromatic, woody, and amber blend with a powdery vanilla finish.
