Our take

Eau de Star opens with a splash of watermelon and cool water notes that feel like diving into a sparkling pool on a scorching afternoon, all fizzy and refreshing. But don’t let that fool you. Within minutes, a thick dollop of honey and vanilla wraps around the aquatic freshness, while patchouli and mimosa drag it firmly into earthy, powdery territory. Louise Turner’s composition is a curious hybrid: one part sugar-sweet gourmand, one part soapy floral, with an ozonic shimmer that keeps it from turning cloying. The dry down is a soft, warm vanilla and patchouli skin scent, the watermelon reduced to a faint memory.

Its overall character is like a celebrity’s discarded sunglasses beside a chlorinated hotel pool, glamorous and slightly tacky in the best way. This fragrance feels synthetic and proudly mainstream, a cheerful synthetic that never pretends to be natural. It shines brightest in spring and fall, especially during daytime wear given its 100% day rating. Longevity is decent at nearly four hours, but sillage stays close to the skin, so don’t expect to leave a wake.

Who should wear it? Anyone who wants a playful, easy reach for casual outings or office days and doesn’t mind a perfume that reads more like a spritzy cocktail than a complex oriental. Skip it if you crave deep, brooding incense or heavy spices. It’s a fun, lightweight flirt, not a statement piece. Does it deserve its 3.77 average? For what it is, yes, but don’t expect longevity heroics.
