Our take

Flashback is a fragrance built for the late night, not the bright morning. Maria Bubnova composed an oriental spicy scent that leans into the shadows rather than the light. The opening of grapefruit, rhubarb, and lime provides a sharp, green citrus sting that cuts through the air. It is a brief, tart introduction that serves only to clear the path for the heavier elements waiting beneath. This initial brightness is not the point of the perfume. It is merely a sharp doorway into a much denser environment where the real character lives.

The heart reveals dried fruits and red berries steeped in saffron, creating a sweet and aromatic density. This fruity warmth eventually settles into a base of ambergris, labdanum, vetiver, and tobacco. The tobacco and labdanum provide a resinous, animalic weight that feels deeply grounding. Vetiver adds an earthy root to the mix, preventing the sweetness from becoming a simple sugar. The ambergris lends a salty, skin-like texture that makes the surrounding woods feel intimate. This drydown is where the fragrance establishes its true identity.

It is a scent that wraps around the wearer like a heavy velvet curtain in a dimly lit room. The air smells of dried fruit left on a wooden table next to a burning resin lamp.
