Our take

Golden Sun opens with a hurdle that some will never clear. The pink pepper bites hard, and the frankincense arrives dusty and dry, giving the first few minutes a sharp, almost medicinal edge that can feel abrasive if you prefer a smooth entrance. It is a fragrance that demands patience before it offers comfort.

Once that rough start settles, the bergamot brightens the resin, and the heart opens into a thick, golden bouquet of Bulgarian rose and jasmine. The ylang-ylang adds a creamy weight that pulls the flowers close to the skin rather than letting them float. In the base, the rum and vanilla create a boozy, balsamic warmth that feels appropriate for a dim room with wood furniture and a heavy sweater. The benzoin lends a powdery softness that keeps the sweetness from becoming a syrup. It is rich and unapologetically heavy, but that initial pepper never fully disappears. It lingers in the background, ensuring the composition stays dry and slightly scratchy even as the vanilla tries to take over.
