The limitation of ’Ilm is its dense, animalic oud opening. Laotian Oud arrives with a dark, resinous weight, joined by Gurjan balsam and Australian Sandalwood, creating a stern first impression with little softness around the edges. It asks for a wearer who enjoys oud as the main event, with its rougher, more tactile side fully on display.
As the composition settles, Ambergris brings a salty warmth, while Oakmoss adds a damp green shadow beneath Atlas Cedar. The effect feels like an old cedar chest opened in a mountain lodge, its wood darkened by resin and cool air. Amber gradually rounds the base, though the structure stays woody and mossy, with an animalic pulse that gives it character. ’Ilm feels tailored, serious, and distinctly masculine, closer to a formal robe than casual daywear.
