Our take

Jasmin Satin opens with a surprisingly woody jolt, the palisander rosewood adding a sharp, almost pencil-shaving edge to the gardenia’s creamy bloom. That initial coolness melts quickly into a generous heart of jasmine sambac, which here reads less like a lush night-bloomer and more like a freshly pressed floral water spiked with a single overripe peach. The lily and orange blossom soften the edges, turning the composition into something powdery and slightly animalic, like the residue left on a silk scarf after a long, warm evening. The base is a musky, white amber drift with a faint Virginia cedar dryness in the background, though the promised sand note barely registers.

The overall picture is a bottle of expensive hotel shampoo left open in a sunlit bathroom, the steam carrying peach and jasmine into the air while a wood-paneled cabinet quietly absorbs the sweetness. It feels polished and commercial rather than daring, squarely within the realm of well-mannered designer florals with a slight niche polish from Karine Dubreuil-Sereni. The sillage is polite to a fault, barely whispering beyond arm’s length, and the longevity fades after three or four hours. This is a spring morning scent for someone who wants to smell like a pristine, apricot-scented gardenia without startling anyone in a meeting. Skip it if you crave projection or a more animalic, indolic jasmine where the nighttime shows its teeth. It suits a quiet brunch or a desk job where discretion matters more than presence.
