Tobacco and honey meet first, thick and golden, with davana adding a dried fruit roundness that feels almost syrupy. The honey here is not bright or airy. It sits low and warm against the tobacco leaf, giving the opening a heavy, resinous weight. Clearwood enters soon after, smoothing the edges without removing the density. Blue lavender provides a cool, herbal lift that cuts through the initial stickiness, though it stays in the background behind the amber. The amber itself is soft and powdery, more of a blanket than a spotlight.
Cedar and sandalwood build slowly beneath the sweeter notes, creating a dry, polished wood floor for the patchouli to rest upon. The patchouli is earthy and dark, avoiding the musty cellar tone that sometimes defines the note. It feels grounded and clean, like soil after a rain in a quiet garden. The wood accords keep the fragrance from becoming too sweet, balancing the honey with a firm, dry structure. Frank Voelkl composed this specific blend, focusing heavily on the contrast between the resinous top and the sturdy base.
