Our take

Smoky Bear opens with a contradiction that some will love and others will find difficult. The lime and raspberry are bright and tart, but they sit uneasily beside the thick rose oil and gardenia. That friction never quite resolves. The heart leans into a heavy white floral density, where night blooming jasmine and orris create a powdery, root-like weight. It is a bold, slightly messy construction. The base is where the name earns its place, as choya loban and oud bring a resinous, smoky woodiness that dominates the finish. Sandalwood and patchouli add a dry, earthy foundation, while the dual rose notes feel more like a faded print than a fresh bouquet.

Composed by Mathew Schmuelian, this is a scent for the person who enjoys a floral fragrance with a dark, amber edge and does not mind a bit of roughness in the blend. It suits cooler evenings when the air is crisp, pairing well with wool coats and dimly lit restaurants. The balsamic and woody accords make it a strong choice for autumn gatherings, offering a distinctive trail that stands apart from cleaner, more polished mainstream releases.
