Our take

Sofia by Detaille begins with a curious tang, tamarind and cassis rubbing their tart, almost jammy edges together before the sugar sets in. It is a bright but fragile opening, like fruit sliced and left on a counter to soften. Quickly the heart ushers in heliotrope and jasmine, and the composition turns powdery, cozy, and just a little perfumed in that old-fashioned way. Heliotrope dusts everything with almond-scented talc, while jasmine adds a fleeting white floral glow. Then the base, patchouli and vanilla, takes over. It is earthy but gentle, a vanilla bean tucked into a handful of dried leaves. The whole thing feels soft, slightly sweet, and remarkably intimate, like a cashmere scarf you have worn so long it carries your own skin.

The sillage is a whisper, rarely above a three out of five, and longevity hovers around the same mark. It fades within four or five hours on most skin. That is the honest trade off for its quiet charm. This is not a fragrance that announces itself; it is a scent you lean into, a private pleasure rather than a public statement. It suits someone who loves powdery florals with a gourmand base but does not need to fill a room. Skip it if you want a patchouli that bites or a vanilla that clings all night. Wear it on a spring afternoon when the sun is still low, or on a cool autumn day layered under a wool coat. It feels most at home in the morning, a gentle companion for errands or a desk job. One could imagine it pressed into the pages of a half-read novel, leaving a faint, sweet mark.
