Poison Girl leans sweeter and heavier than its citrus opening promises, turning almost entirely toward almond and vanilla within minutes. Bitter orange and lemon cut through at the very start, sharp and citrus-forward, but damask rose, grasse rose and orange blossom in the heart give way fast to the almond-heavy base underneath.
The almond is doing more work here than the rose is, and it shows: what could have been a fairly ordinary rose fragrance turns instead into something closer to a warm nut liqueur further into the wear. Fans of straightforward rose scents may find it too sweet; fans of gourmand orientals will likely find it exactly right.
Tonka bean, tolu balsam, sandalwood, heliotrope and cashmeran thicken the drydown into something dense and a little powdery, warmer and sweeter than the rose it started as.
It keeps a firm grip on the skin once it settles, built for cold-weather nights, and the sillage keeps a quiet, close-in presence, noticed by whoever stands near. Marzipan left a little too long near a low flame is the nearest thing to the almond and vanilla it leaves behind.
