Our take

Bergamot spritzes open with a sharp, almost metallic citrus before the iris takes charge, waxy and cool as a freshly sharpened pencil. Olibanum drifts in behind, not church incense but a soft, costly resin, while the musk stays whisper-thin, barely pulling the composition into skin. On development, the powder creeps forward, thick and violet-tinged, like the inside of a wooden jewelry box that has held nothing but a single dried lavender sachet for decades. The drydown is a faint woody amber smear, clean but unsettlingly quiet.

This is a fragrance of near-total restraint, a ghost of a scent that demands you press your nose to the wrist and hold still. For a 2022 Diptyque, it feels more like a study than a statement: the iris is patient, the bergamot barely remembered, the olibanum and musk dissolving into a barely audible hum. With a sillage rating barely above 2.5 and longevity that fades within a few hours on most skin, Opsis is not about projection or endurance. It is a meditation for the person who prefers their perfume to be a private language, not a broadcast.

Who wants that? Someone who loves the feel of a linen suit in early spring, or who walks through wet stone courtyards in autumn and wants their scent to be a footnote rather than the headline. Skip it if you crave warmth, if you need a fragrance to announce your arrival, or if the idea of reapplying every three hours makes you want to throw the bottle across the room. Best worn on a damp weekend afternoon, alone, reading by an open window.
