Our take

Givenchy’s My Dream opens with a burst of clementine so bright it practically sparkles, joined by a tart black currant and the honeyed fuzz of persimmon. This is no shy fruit salad; it’s a playful, almost candied start that quickly melts into a bouquet of lily-of-the-valley, rose, and jasmine. The white florals stay sheer, never cloying, while the rose adds a polite sweetness. As it dries down, sandalwood and patchouli dust the edges with a soft, woody warmth, and amber gives a faint, honeyed glow. The whole effect is like a watercolor that’s already drying at the edges, a lovely pastel blur of spring and early summer. That’s the trouble, though. With longevity scraping just above a whisper and sillage barely reaching beyond an arm’s length, My Dream is a fleeting one. It’s a skin scent in the truest sense, intimate and ephemeral. Who would wear this? Someone who wants a gentle, uplifting floral fruit for a sunny morning coffee or a lunch date, a spritz that doesn’t announce itself but lingers like a memory. Skip it if you need presence or staying power; this dream evaporates before noon. Mark Buxton’s composition is perfectly pleasant, refreshingly straightforward, but it never quite earns the commitment its name suggests. Sometimes a daydream is just that.
