Our take

Pear, cardamom and pineapple open Gentleman on a bright, almost fruity note that feels at odds with the fragrance's tailored reputation. Its stamina lands in the average bracket even here, thinner than that fruit would suggest, and sillage is understated from the first spray, a soft cloud that registers mainly up close. Iris, lavender and geranium arrive quickly underneath, cool and powdery, pulling the fruit back toward something more formal and composed. The transition happens fast, fruit giving way to powder early on and staying that way for most of the wear.

Leather, black vanilla husk and patchouli carry the base, and the real depth shows up here. The leather stays smooth and polished, never veering into anything raw or rugged, closer to a well-kept jacket than a saddle. Black vanilla husk threads a soft, dark sweetness underneath it, and patchouli grounds the whole thing in something earthy and aged, all old wood and dust by the finish, a long way from the pear and pineapple that opened it.

Gentleman works across most of the year, spring pulling out the fruit and fall drawing out the leather and vanilla, though it always stays fairly quiet on skin. It carries a formal, tailored character throughout, built for someone who wants restraint over anything loud.
