Our take

A desk job with an evening event attached is exactly where Gentleman Eau de Parfum Boisée earns its keep. Givenchy opens it with black pepper, geranium and coriander, sharp and fresh-spiced rather than sweet, before Olivier Cresp's real idea shows up: iris paired with cacao pod. That pairing gives the heart a powdery, faintly bitter edge, closer to unsweetened cocoa dusted with flour than to anything dessert-like, while cedar adds a dry backbone underneath, formal in character despite the cacao.

Woodsy notes, sandalwood and patchouli round out the base, earthy and warm without turning heavy, and the whole composition stays dry and aromatic more than sweet throughout, never once drifting toward anything gourmand. Wear time sits in the middle range, a steady, unremarkable pace, and the sillage keeps to a small halo around the wearer, noticed only by whoever stands close.

It comes into its own once the light starts fading earlier in the year, better suited to the colder half of the calendar than to summer afternoons. It fits a man who wants iris and cacao played dry and formal, not a fragrance built to be loud, better suited to tailored coats and quiet offices than to casual weekends.
