The Secret Absolu
Fragrance notes
Character
Let’s be honest: a celebrity fragrance with numbers this dreary 2.87 for longevity, 2.22 for sillage is usually a pass. But The Secret Absolu, launched in 2024 by Honorine Blanc and Ilias Ermenidis, deserves a second sniff. It opens with a crisp green apple that isn’t candy-sweet; cardamom and ginger add a lively, almost fizzy warmth, while bergamot keeps things clean. The heart is where it gets interesting lavender and violet leaf draped over saffron’s metallic honey. Then the base arrives like a worn leather armchair in a wood-paneled den, amber and labdanum melted into cognac’s boozy velvet suede. That’s the image: a man in a tweed jacket, nursing a snifter by the fire, smelling quietly expensive without shouting.
But this scent whispers. For a warm spicy oriental, it’s disappointingly shy on skin, fading to a close hug within three hours. The sillage barely registers past an arm’s length. It suits the introspective guy who wears fragrance for himself fall and winter evenings, date nights where proximity matters, or a day at the office if you reapply. Skip it if you crave projection or longevity; this is a private pleasure, not a crowd-pleaser. Who knew Banderas could bottle such refined restraint?
