Our take

Kamuthraa opens with a hurdle for some wearers. The blackcurrant syrup note leans heavily into a candied, almost medicinal sweetness that can feel cloying before the rest of the structure arrives. Pink pepper tries to cut through that density, but the fruit remains dominant in the early minutes.

The heart brings jasmine sambac, orange blossom, cyclamen, narcissus, and rose. These white and fresh florals add lift, though the syrup from the top still lingers underneath. As the fragrance develops, incense, patchouli, oud, tonka bean, vanilla, and benzoin form a warm, balsamic, woody base. The composition stays present on the skin for an extended period and does not project far beyond the wearer. The amber and spicy elements wrap around the florals, creating a dense oriental floral that suits cooler evenings.

The initial fruit remains the weak point. Once the darker base settles, the scent becomes more cohesive, but that opening syrup never fully disappears for everyone. If a heavy, candy-like blackcurrant does not appeal to you, this fragrance will not win you over, no matter how much the resinous drydown improves the balance.
