Our take

Jasmine, doubled up as regular jasmine and jasmine sambac, is the whole reason to wear Mon Jasmin Noir, and it dominates nearly the entire composition from the first minute. Lily-of-the-valley and citron open on a green, citrus note that clears out early, leaving the jasmine plenty of room to take over almost on its own, with barely a top-note stage to speak of.

Underneath, nougat and musk add a soft, nutty sweetness, and patchouli with Virginia cedar grounds it in something drier and woodier before the jasmine can turn cloying. The jasmine itself leans heady and white floral, powdery at the edges rather than sharp, true to the actual flower and not to a polished, inoffensive floral accord.

Wear time holds at a fair, unhurried pace, never calling attention to itself, and the jasmine radius stays small and shoulder-to-shoulder, noticed mainly by the person standing nearest, not by the room. What's here is a genuinely floral, heady jasmine that skips the usual sweetened, watered-down treatment, at its best on spring days when the greener top notes read clearest against cool morning air, less convincing once summer heat pushes the sweetness harder.
