Splendida Tubereuse Mystique
Fragrance notes
Character
Splendida Tubereuse Mystique opens with a sharp, jammy burst of black currant and the herbal, wine-like tang of davana. That fruity top note is almost too eager, a little abrasive at first, but it softens quickly into the starring tuberose. This is not a dewy, green tuberose. It is a plush, buttery white flower, slightly candied and given a warm, dusty frame by myrrh and vanilla absolute. The heart feels dense and almost animalic, a faintly musky sweetness that clings to the skin like the memory of a hothouse at dusk. On drydown, the vanilla takes over, turning the whole affair into a sweet, balsamic embrace with just enough resinous bitterness from the myrrh to keep it from being cloying.
The overall impression is that of a silk slip left in a sun-warmed church: opulent yet faintly solemn, floral but grounded in amber and balsam. It feels modern mainstream with a slight niche twist in that animalic undercurrent, though the projection is polite and longevity sits at a modest three to four hours before it becomes a skin scent. It suits someone who loves lush white florals but prefers them sweet and cosseted rather than green or indolic. Skip it if you demand nuclear sillage or if vanilla-dominant drydowns bore you.
Wear this on a cool spring evening or a crisp fall afternoon, when the air needs a little warmth and indulgence. It works surprisingly well for daytime too, as long as you apply lightly. The votes say winter and fall are strongest, and I agree. A tuberose that leans into comfort rather than drama, it is a reliable, pretty flanker that does not reinvent the wheel but polishes it nicely.
