The plum adds a dark jammy undertone that keeps it from veering into candy-shop flatness, but make no mistake: Cherry Smoothie 2022 is a glutton for sugar. The heart brings in Peru balsam and heliotrope, dusting everything with a creamy, slightly floral powder that softens the edges, while hawthorn chimes in with a whisper of green tartness that almost cuts through the sweetness but doesn’t quite commit. On dry down, vanilla and tonka bean melt into a warm, dense blanket of almond-milk pudding and ambered wood. The overall character is a plush velvet headband worn on a spring afternoon when the sun is warm but the air still carries a nip. It feels undeniably synthetic in a cheerful, mainstream way, like a fruity body spray that got promoted to designer junior status. Wear it if you want a cheerful, low-commitment sweet scent for daytime errands or a casual brunch. Skip it if you demand projection or staying power: the sillage is a close whisper fading to skin within two hours, and longevity barely scrapes three. The votes don’t lie. That said, for twelve dollars, it’s a perfectly agreeable cherry soda that fizzes, then fizzles, without pretending to be more.
