Our take

Rum opens Classique Eau de Parfum with an unexpected boozy warmth, paired against a tincture of rose that grounds the sweetness in something more floral than sugary. It's a strange, striking pairing for a Jean Paul Gaultier bottle known for its corseted silhouette, and the contrast lands better than it has any right to.

Vanilla orchid and narcissus carry the heart into softer, more floral ground, though the rum's warmth never fully disappears underneath. Jacques Cavallier Belletrud built a heart that bridges gourmand and floral without leaning hard into either camp, narcissus adding a slightly green, indolic edge that gives the sweetness more dimension.

Vanille, amber, tonka bean and sandalwood settle the base into something rich and syrupy, powdery around the edges rather than sticky. It holds firm on the skin, the amber and tonka base giving it real endurance, and projection is genuine here, leaving a trail as you move through a room.

Save it for evenings when a bit of warmth and spice suits the occasion, dinners, dates, anywhere the temperature calls for amber and vanilla over citrus. It's a rich, confident scent that never once apologizes for how much rum it's carrying.
