Our take

Le Beau strips the fougère template down to three notes and lets each one carry real weight. Bergamot opens it, bright and clean, before coconut takes over the heart with a soft, lactonic creaminess that never turns tropical or sugary. Tonka bean closes the base, warm and faintly almond-like, the kind of note that smells like a memory of vanilla without actually being one. The restraint is the whole point: with only three notes to work with, each one has to earn its place, and here they genuinely do.

Longevity sits right in the middle, neither brief nor stubborn, and what projects stays noticed within arm's reach, nothing that carries beyond a handshake. It works equally well for a beach afternoon or an office where colognes are expected to stay quiet, and the coconut never turns tropical or sugary in either setting.

The bergamot and tonka keep the coconut dry and grown-up, avoiding the cloying, tropical version of the note that turns up in so many beach-ready releases. The whole composition works precisely because it refuses to do more than three notes' worth of work, and that restraint is the most modern thing about it.
