Our take

Caraway is the note that makes the opening of Epic Woman strange in the best sense, an earthy, almost bready spice next to cinnamon and a green sliver of pink nerium oleander. It reads sharp and a little dry in the first minutes, not sweet at all despite the cinnamon sitting right there in the accord.

Damask rose takes over at the heart, given a green, almost bitter lift by geranium and a whisper of tea, so it never turns into a straightforward rose soliflore. By the base, oud, olibanum and patchouli bring real weight, with amber, sandalwood and guaiac wood filling out a dry, resinous foundation that vanilla only barely sweetens.

The base holds on for a long stretch, the oud and patchouli staying legible well after the rose and spice have faded from the top. Projection has real presence too, announcing itself before whoever is near you can place exactly what it is.

Fall and winter weather give the resins and oud room to unfold, and the composition rewards patience since the caraway-cinnamon opening reads as unusual before it reads as beautiful. What settles in afterward is a dry, spiced rose built with real weight, the kind of composition that brings incense and a cold chapel to mind rather than a conventional feminine floral.
