Opus V – Woods Symphony
Fragrance notes
Character
Opus V – Woods Symphony opens with a boozy punch of rum that cuts straight through the powdery orris root, like a splash of dark spirit over freshly milled cedar. The rum fades quickly, leaving the orris to unfurl in its full, lipstick-velvet glory, but the heart is where this fragrance really tries to flex: a rose and jasmine duo that feels plush and slightly dated, as if borrowed from an old Guerlain extrait. Then the base steps in with a dry, almost splintery oud, rubbed raw with civet’s animalic whisper and bone-dry woods. The overall character is that of a mahogany cabinet that once held fur stoles and love letters — dusty, refined, and just a touch feral.
This is a heavy, contemplative scent, leaning more natural than synthetic despite the somewhat modest longevity of around five hours and a sillage that stays close to the skin. It never roars; it murmurs. That 2.89 sillage number tells the truth: you will smell yourself, but others only if they lean in. It feels niche in ambition but slightly mainstream in execution, like a classical composition played by a tired orchestra.
Best worn in fall or winter evenings, when its dusty warmth can bloom against cold air. Spring works too, but summer is a lost cause. Who should wear it? Someone who loves vintage iris and animalic finishes, who wants to feel like they are wearing a scent, not broadcasting it. Skip it if you crave projection or a modern gourmand sweetness. This symphony is for the quiet room, not the crowded party.
