Versace's Pour Homme Oud Noir keeps its oud fairly restrained, more a woody undertone than the resinous, medicinal note some oud fans go looking for. Black pepper and bitter orange open sharp and warm, neroli softening the citrus almost immediately, giving the top a brighter, slightly floral lift before the spice takes hold.
Saffron and cardamom take the heart into classic warm-spice territory, olibanum adding a resinous lift underneath. The oud stays mostly in the background here, felt more than smelled outright, letting patchouli and leatherwood carry most of the base's woody weight, dry and a little dusty rather than dark and heavy.
Staying power sits at a fair, middling pace, neither fleeting nor especially stubborn, and the sillage stays modest, warm and close, the kind of presence best picked up during a handshake or a shared elevator ride. Fall and winter are clearly its seasons, with the spice and leatherwood both wanting cold air to push against.
Anyone hoping for a loud, resinous oud bomb will find this too polite for that. Someone who wants a warm, spicy woody with just a whisper of oud in the background will get exactly that instead.
