Eau de Prep Tommy opens with a brisk slap of grapefruit and clary sage, sharp and citric enough to cut through a morning fog. Within minutes, the heart shifts into a bristly green tangle of juniper, lavender, and cracked black pepper, with geranium lending a faintly floral, almost bitter edge. It never gets sweet; the base of suede, amber, and oakmoss pulls it into a dry, powdery leather that whispers rather than shouts. The whole thing feels like a crisp linen blazer worn to a prep school field hockey match: clean, sporty, and slightly rigid.
The problem is it barely lasts. With longevity scraping just above two hours and sillage that evaporates before you leave the driveway, you are essentially paying for a memory of a fragrance. It is undeniably natural and well blended, a touch more niche in intent than mainstream execution, but that restraint becomes a flaw when you want any kind of presence. This is for the guy who hates offending anyone, who wants a polite hint of aromatic freshness before lunch and is fine reapplying. Spring and summer mornings, maybe a lazy Saturday brunch.
