It feels casual and approachable from the first spray, avoiding the heavy, costume-like feel of the original Le Male. The opening combines lavender and mint with a pinch of cardamom. It smells clean and slightly cooling, like a shirt that just came out of the dryer. This freshness does not feel sterile or clinical. The herbs have a soft, rounded quality that keeps the scent friendly rather than sharp.
As the fragrance develops, the green character moves to the center. The heart notes of green leaves and grass give it a slightly damp, outdoor quality. It smells like a freshly mowed lawn or the crushed stems of a plant. This phase prevents the scent from becoming too sweet too quickly. It adds a natural, slightly vegetal texture that grounds the brighter top notes. This is where the "Summer" name makes the most sense, as the scent captures a bright, outdoor atmosphere without relying on heavy citrus.
The base brings in the signature Jean Paul Gaultier warmth. Vanilla and sandalwood soften the green edges, creating a smooth, powdery finish. The musk adds a clean, skin-like warmth that makes the fragrance feel intimate. It stays close and personal rather than projecting a loud, artificial cloud. The transition from the crisp green opening to the soft, woody dry down is seamless. It maintains a clean laundry vibe throughout its life on the skin.
The main limitation is the dry down. The vanilla and powdery notes eventually overshadow the interesting green and minty opening. It becomes a bit generic in the final stages, losing the unique outdoor freshness that sets it apart. If you dislike powdery scents, the base will feel too dusty and traditional for your taste.
