Our take

Dolce Vita opens with a small fruit basket: peach, grapefruit and bergamot, plus lily and rose adding a floral lift almost immediately after the first spray.

Cinnamon and apricot carry the heart forward, warm and a little spiced, with Brazilian rosewood, more lily and heliotrope filling out a soft, powdery middle, and magnolia adding a last floral touch before the base takes over completely.

Vanilla, sandalwood, cedar and coconut close things out, warm and faintly tropical, an unexpected but pleasant turn for a fragrance that started out on pure citrus. Staying power runs long and the sillage forms a small, steady bubble, noticed within arm's reach and no farther, matching the fragrance's overall sense of restraint despite the crowded note list.

It works comfortably across most of the year, though fall and winter bring out the warmth in the base most clearly of all. Composed by Pierre Bourdon and Maurice Roger, it is a fragrance built on abundance rather than a single idea, generous with both fruit and spice throughout. The individual pieces rarely fight for attention, even with this many notes competing for space.
