Our take

Dior Homme Intense 2007 barely registers as a daytime fragrance, and it doesn't try to be one. François Demachy built it almost entirely around iris, powdery and slightly cold, paired with vanilla in a combination that reads more like violet-scented face powder than like a flower at all. There is no citrus opener, no bright top note to soften the entrance, just iris and vanilla arriving together from the first spray.

Amber and cedar deepen the powdery iris as it develops, adding warmth and a dry, earthy wood underneath, while vetiver brings a slightly bitter, root-like counterpoint to the sweetness. The powdery quality never fully disappears, even once the wood and amber take hold, and that consistency is part of what makes the fragrance instantly identifiable.

Staying power is considerable, holding firm and showing little sign of fading once it settles in. Sillage matches that intensity, with real carry that reaches whoever is standing nearby.

Fall and winter are its only real home, more suited to nighttime wear than daytime. It rewards someone drawn to iris played dark and dense, and it will feel oppressive to anyone who wants their fragrance to stay in the background.
