Black pepper opens Flora Gorgeous Jasmine on a sharper foot than the name promises, cut through mandarin and bergamot before the jasmine trio, jasmine, jasmine sambac and magnolia, takes over, propped by damask rose. The effect is bright and floral, closer to cut stems in water than a heavy bouquet, with sandalwood and benzoin only murmuring underneath.
Staying power here is middling, present without insisting on it, and sillage stays private, felt mostly by the wearer and anyone who steps in close. It wants sun on skin, easiest through spring and into summer, a scent for daylight more than evening. Anyone drawn to jasmine but wary of its sometimes overripe, indolic side will find this version cleaner, its sweetness lifted by citrus and black pepper up top.
It leans feminine and modern rather than vintage, easy to wear to an office or out for lunch, cleaner and brighter than the house's more traditional florals. The patchouli and benzoin barely surface at the base, leaving the last trace smelling like jasmine picked that morning and left too long in a warm car.
