Our take

Angélique Noire starts on pear and pink pepper, juicy and a little sharp, before angelica settles the fruit into something earthier and more herbal than the name's darkness might suggest. Daniela Andrier built the composition around a single note used twice, angelica in the top and again in the base, a rare structural trick that gives it a strange, continuous thread from start to finish.

Jasmine and caraway sit in the middle, spicy and slightly bitter, giving the fruit a savory edge it wouldn't have alone. Vanilla and cedar round out the base, and the wear settles in comfortably, holding its shape long after the pear has faded into the woodier, spicier register underneath. The trail stays modest throughout, the amber and musk giving off a gentle, powdery warmth noticed only by someone standing right beside you.

Real heat is the one season this fragrance can't handle; everywhere else, spring through winter, it holds up fine. Wear it for cooler days when you want fruit that reads as more grown-up than sweet, the pink pepper and caraway keeping the composition on the drier, spicier side of gourmand.
