Our take

Grapefruit, orange and bergamot crowd the opening of L'Homme Idéal Cologne, a citrus trio sharpened by pink pepper, and for a moment it smells like nothing more than a well-dressed fruit basket. Almond changes that quickly, folding in a soft, slightly sweet nuttiness that gives the citrus something to lean on, and neroli adds a clean floral note alongside it, keeping the whole opening bright rather than syrupy.

Vetiver and white musk take over in the base, dry and clean, pulling the fruit and almond down into something more restrained by the finish. This reads more like a citrus cologne with a nutty accent than a full gourmand, closer to a morning shave than an evening out. Thierry Wasser is the perfumer credited here, working within Guerlain's lighter cologne register.

Staying power holds in the middle range, steady without needing much upkeep, and the sillage stays a quiet, close-range presence, reaching someone standing close and no one else. That makes it well suited to daytime wear, a desk job or a casual errand, where clean citrus comes across as put-together without much effort.
