Our take

Big Pony 1 opens with a brisk squeeze of lime and grapefruit that feels less like fresh juice and more like a citrus-scented hand wipe left too long in a gym bag. The synthetic zing is unmistakable, but Yves Cassar knew that was the point: a bright, commercial jolt designed to slap you awake before the day even starts. Within minutes, the sharp edges soften into a woody aromatic haze, where oak provides a dry, conifer-tinged backbone. The grapefruit fades fast, leaving a vaguely spicy, clean-shaven impression that smells like the lobby of an aggressively air-conditioned mall in July. This is not a fragrance that changes much. It opens, it settles, it stays.

The overall character is a well-manicured lawn drenched in morning dew and then forgotten until noon—competent, inoffensive, and utterly weightless. Longevity clocks in at a measly 2.38, sillage at 2.08, which means you get a brief whiff of yourself after spraying, then nothing. For a scent called Big Pony, it gallops like a hobbyhorse.

Who should wear this? The teenager heading to spring break, the guy who wants to smell “clean” without offending anyone, the person who believes fragrance should whisper and then leave. Who should skip it? Anyone expecting depth, staying power, or a single provocative note. Wear it on a sunny Saturday morning before the heat rises, but don't bother reapplying for the evening—by then, you’ll already be gone.
