Truefitt & Hill’s 1805 is the olfactory equivalent of a starched linen shirt on a warm morning: crisp, proper, and just a little bit old-school. It opens with a bright citrus snap of mandarin and bergamot, but the cardamom is already there, warming the sharpness into something invitingly spicy. The heart is where this fragrance really finds its voice, a classic lavender-geranium duo that feels both barbershop clean and herbaceous, with clary sage adding a smudged, almost soapy depth. As it dries down, the cedar and sandalwood step in to tuck everything into a soft, musky drift that stays close to the skin.
That closeness is the honest rub here. With a sillage of 2.57 and longevity around three hours, 1805 doesn’t project or persist. It’s a whisper, not a statement, which is fine for a morning shave or a daytime meeting but will disappear before dinner.
