Dolce Sonata opens with a sticky, jubilant burst of raspberry and apricot, a citrus top note trio of lime, bergamot, and sweet orange lending it a sprightly, almost candied fizz. The heart blooms with osmanthus, lily of the valley, jasmine, and rose, but the incense is already creeping in, turning this from a picnic basket into something more ceremonial. As it dries down, cotton candy and patchouli roll up to meet the lingering incense, creating a sweet smoky haze that feels like a bonfire at a carnival, marshmallow and ash in equal measure. The overall character is a glossy, fruity floral that gets its hands dirty with resin and smoke, but it never fully abandons its sugar rush.
It wears as a synthetic niche scent, polished and loud, but the longevity and sillage are merely good, not great, a three point eight two and three point four eight respectively, so you will need to reapply to keep the smoke and berries alive through an evening. This is for the person who wants to smell like a jewel box that caught fire, sweet and opulent but with an edge. Skip it if you find cotton candy cloying or if you prefer your incense dry and austere, because here it is drenched in fruit syrup. Wear it in winter, when its warmth cuts the cold, at night, to a dinner or cocktail party where you intend to be noticed and remembered.
