Formula 28
Fragrance notes
Character
Formula 28 opens with black pepper and cloves that deliver a sharp, fresh spicy lift. The spices are present and noticeable, but they do not dominate the composition for long. The heart introduces oud, cashmere wood, cedar, and patchouli, which steer the fragrance into a dense woody character. The oud here is prominent and pairs closely with the earthy patchouli, while the cedar and cashmere wood soften the edges and keep the texture from becoming too rough. This middle section carries the identity of the scent, leaning heavily into the woody and balsamic accords that define the profile.
The base of labdanum, musk, and tonka bean takes over and shapes the lasting impression. Labdanum brings a deep amber quality that feels warm and resinous, and tonka bean adds a smooth sweetness that balances the earlier spices. Musk sits underneath to round out the blend. Together, they create a musky, amber-heavy finish that feels suited to a dimly lit room and a quiet evening. The overall composition is cohesive and leans into its darker, resinous side. The limitation here is the clove note, which can occasionally push through the base and give the amber a slightly sharp, medicinal edge that distracts from the smooth resinous finish.
