Character
The study door is shut against the late afternoon. A desk holds a stack of birch veneer samples and a cooling cup of black tea. The air carries the sharp snap of bergamot and bitter orange, bright against the resinous bite of pine needles and a cooling thread of mint that moves through the room like a draft through a cracked window.
Lavender settles into the space next, soft but not powdery, wrapped around the tart crunch of green apple and the thin, acidic lift of red currant and rose hip. The fruit is fresh, not candied, and it pulls the herbs toward something green and upright rather than something arranged for a shop shelf.
Smoke begins to rise from the base. Birch lends a dry, charred leather tone that meets the golden weight of opoponax and vanilla, while oakmoss presses the edges into a damp, shaded earth. The leather accord deepens, aromatic and woody, until the room smells of a forest floor where a fire was recently lit and then left to smolder under a canopy of branches.
The vanilla smooths the rough bark and the smoky air into a single texture that feels both sweet and austere, the currant still faintly visible in the corners, the pine returning in small waves as the lavender continues to hum against the opoponax and the birch
