III by NSHQ opens with a strange hesitation. The violet and musk arrive together, but the violet feels thin, almost like a fabric softener that has been diluted too many times. It lacks the natural depth that makes the flower compelling, sitting on the skin as a pale powder rather than a rich bloom. This lightness is the fragrance's weak point, as it never quite commits to being a bold floral statement.

Nutmeg and saffron soon wrap around that pale violet. The spices add a dry heat that pushes against the cool powder, while patchouli and cedar provide a sturdy, woody backbone. The scent feels like standing near a market stall where dried herbs hang next to carved timber. It is a warm spicy environment, yet the initial floral note remains a bit washed out in the middle of it all.

Amber and seaweed form the base, creating a marine accord that is damp and resinous. The seaweed note is distinct, bringing a salty air quality that mixes with the heavy amber. It smells like wood planks near the ocean, weathered and coated in a warm glow. The powdery violet from the start still lingers here, trying to soften the rugged marine and woody edges that dominate the lower half of the composition.

The overall impression stays rooted in that opening struggle. III never fully recovers from the weak, synthetic violet that greets the nose. Even as the saffron, cedar, and seaweed build a complex and interesting structure, the pale floral top note holds the experience back from feeling truly premium. It is a creative mix of spice and sea, but the thin start remains a distraction throughout the wear.
