Our take

Kalahari opens with a sharp saffron thread that cuts through the boozy rum and tart raspberry. The fruit is present but dark, leaning into the spice rather than brightening the start. It feels immediate and a bit loud, with the raspberry adding a sticky, jam-like quality to the alcohol.

The heart shifts toward smoke as incense rises and vetiver adds a dry, earthy edge. Rose sits quietly in the background, more of a powdery suggestion than a floral statement. The saffron lingers here, bridging the spicy top to the heavier materials waiting below.

The base is where the composition spends most of its time. Labdanum and benzoin create a thick, resinous foundation that feels warm and slightly sticky. Tonka bean and bourbon vanilla smooth the edges, while leather and cedar provide a firm, dry structure. The vanilla is deep and dark, not sugary, and it merges with the balsamic notes to form a heavy, amber-dominant trail that stays near the body.

Composed by Florian Gallo, this is a scent for dimly lit evenings and close conversations. The resinous weight can feel a bit monolithic, and the raspberry note sometimes clashes with the leather instead of blending, creating a slight sharpness that never quite resolves.
