Our take

Mastin opens with a saffron-singed oud that feels less like smoke and more like a polished antique box, one that has held rose petals for decades. The cardamom adds a nervy flicker, but the heart quickly turns powdery and introspective, orris and white wood softening the oud’s edge while jasmine and orange blossom hover like pale light through a curtain. The base settles into a warm, animalic musk cushioned by ambergris and sand, with the blackwood lending a dry, almost salty finish. The whole journey is a dusty velvet divan in a forgotten parlor, where every cushion still holds someone else’s ghost.

This is a fragrance that leans heavy and deliberate, with a distinctly natural, almost handcrafted feel that marks it as niche in the best sense. Yet its longevity and sillage both hover just above a three, meaning you will need to reapply if you want it to last through dinner or project beyond arm’s length. The powdery iris and white florals can, at times, blunt the oud’s fangs, making the composition feel a little too polite for a scent called Mastin.

It suits someone who loves the idea of oud but prefers it tamed by soft, dusty florals and a gentle warmth. Skip it if you want beast-mode projection or a crisp, modern profile. Wear it on a cool spring evening or a gray winter afternoon, when the light is low and the company is close. It is a fragrance for leaning in, not announcing.
