Fragrance notes
Character
The door swings open and cold air rushes in with you, carrying the scent of wet stone and fallen leaves. Inside, a wood-paneled library hums with quiet conversation and the glow of a single fireplace. You unbutton your coat near a table where saffron and thyme rest against the steam rising from a cup of dark tea. The spices feel immediate and bright, cutting through the room's heavy stillness with a sharp, herbal clarity that draws the eye to the flicker of the flames.
As the evening settles, the heart of the room reveals itself through the scent on your sleeve. Plum adds a deep, bruised fruitiness to the air, softened by the green, slightly minty edge of geranium. Patchouli grounds the space, its earthy richness mixing with the smoke that curls upward from the hearth. It is a dense, atmospheric layer that makes the walls feel closer and the leather armchairs more inviting, wrapping the moment in a warm, aromatic haze.
The foundation of the scene is built on darker materials. Oud and cypriol rise from the floorboards, smelling of resin and damp earth, while oakmoss clings to the shadowed corners of the room. Benzoin and incense float near the ceiling, creating a sweet, balsamic cloud that sits just above the sharp bite of leather. This is a composition that feels rooted in the soil and the wood, a blend of animalic warmth and smoky shadow that fills the space completely.
Celine Guivarch composed this 2022 release for Cloon Keen Atelier as a study in contrasts. The saffron sparkles against the heavy, tar-like leather, and the plum provides a fleeting softness before the dry, mossy base takes hold. It is a fragrance that captures the scent of old wood and burning resin. The air smells of oud and incense.
