Our take

Maurice Roucel, the master of transparent luxury, gives us a neroli that skips the bitter Mediterranean bite in favor of a soft, powdery embrace. It opens with a brisk spritz of bitter orange and lemon peel, sharp but fleeting, like the first crack of a morning citrus rind. Almost immediately, the heart blooms into a bouquet of neroli, jasmine, freesia, and peony, but these are not dewy, garden-fresh florals. They are gauzy, slightly cosmetic, buffed to a matte sheen. The dry down leans into a vanilla and amber base, with sandalwood and musk smoothing every edge into a comforting, skin-like finish.

The overall character is a cashmere sweater doused in a bottle of fancy hand soap. It feels fresh and sweet in equal measure, undeniably mainstream in its approachability, but with that Roucel signature of polished, slightly synthetic elegance. The longevity is modest, hovering around the 3.59 mark, and the sillage polite enough for a crowded elevator, just a whisper of citrus and vanilla trailing behind you.

This is a spring and summer scent for the woman who wants to smell clean without smelling like she tried too hard. Wear it to brunch, to the office, or on a lazy afternoon when a full perfume feels like too much. Skip it if you crave the dark, animalic grit of a true neroli or demand performance that lasts through dinner. It is a pretty, fleeting pleasure, a spritz of sunshine that evaporates into memory.
