Our take

Oud Indochine opens with a bright, almost sugary punch of cardamom and saffron, the vanilla lending a plush softness that tricks you into thinking this will be a gentle wear. It is not. Within minutes, the heart surges with myrrh and beeswax, a sticky, resinous warmth edged by frankincense’s smoky lift and the leathery grip of labdanum. The dry down is where the blend earns its name: two distinct ouds—Indian and Thai—tangle with dark chocolate and cacao pod, while a whisper of birch tar and ambergris adds a feral, animalic depth. The overall effect is like opening a lacquered chest in a temple that has been sealed for decades, the air thick with spiced incense, aged wood, and a thread of cocoa.

This is a heavy, intensely sweet fragrance, leaning more natural than synthetic despite its obvious richness. The longevity is excellent, easily lasting eight hours, but the sillage is modest, sitting close to the skin after the first hour—a private indulgence rather than a room-filler. That moderate projection is actually its one weakness; for a scent this complex, you might wish it announced itself louder.

It suits those who love dark, gourmand-tinged ouds without the barnyard funk, and who appreciate a meditative, almost edible warmth. Skip it if you shy away from sweet resins or prefer fresh, airy scents. Wear this in deep autumn or winter, at night, when the cold air needs a blanket of amber and chocolate to cut through. It is a fragrance for quiet evenings, not loud parties, and it rewards patience.
