Our take

Playboy VIP for Him opens with a boozy slap of rum sharpened by rhubarb’s sour edge and a flick of bergamot: it’s sweet but not cloying, like a cocktail spilled on a velvet rope. The heart tries for balance with red apple’s candy crunch and lavender’s proper aromatic tone, but the water notes feel like an afterthought, a thin layer of condensation on a cheap glass. Then the base arrives, white chocolate and tonka bean smoothing everything into a fuzzy, edible warmth, sandalwood giving it a ghost of backbone. The whole thing is a synthetic Oriental, mass-appeal sweet but wearing its 2.49 sillage like a shy party guest who keeps apologizing. Longevity at 2.85 means it fades before the last call.

This is the fragrance equivalent of a VIP laminate that gets you into the lounge but not the inner circle: fun, obvious, and forgettable by morning. It’s a winter and fall scent through and through, the warmth perfect for overcoats and club bathrooms, but the apple-lavender heart feels juvenile when it could have leaned deeper into rum and wood. Who wears this? The guy who wants to smell like a dessert menu at a sports bar, date night or a house party where nobody cares about nuance. Skip it if you want projection, complexity, or anything that doesn’t feel like it was designed by a committee on a 2012 spreadsheet. For the price, it’s a guilty pleasure, not a wardrobe staple.
