Principalities opens with a scrape of cold mineral and gunpowder, a chili pepper sting that reads more like airborne grit than heat. The metallic note is sharp enough to make your back teeth ache, and then petrichor and ash tumble in, wet stone hitting dry cinder. It is not polite. Midway, the peculiar sweetness of a crumbling cookie appears, almost unnervingly cozy against the dust, dried leaves, and incense. Rose thorn and hyssop cut through with green bitterness, while black tea and ginseng lend a faint, tannic steam. The base cools into leather, violet, and oud, with sandalwood and ylang ylang softening the edges into a balsamic, almost sacramental warmth.
This is the scent of a ransacked cathedral the morning after a lightning strike, rain still sizzling on scorched stone. It wears heavy, dense, and profoundly niche, more artifact than accessory. The smoke and spice never quite let go, and the cookie note can feel like a tonal knot if you expect linearity. Longevity is excellent, four-plus hours of audible projection that settles to a close skin hum. Sillage is present but not domineering, just enough to trail like a whispered sermon.
