Our take

Black currant leads Pulp out of the gate, dark and a little tart, with cardamom adding a peppery lift right alongside it. Bergamot brightens the very top but disappears fast, leaving black currant to carry the opening almost alone.

Fig and red apple move in next, green and slightly milky, with tiare flower adding a white floral hum underneath. Byredo built a fragrance that smells like biting into several different fruits at once, rather than any single one in particular.

Praline shows up late and turns the whole thing sweeter and nuttier, closer to a dessert than the green fruit opening suggested. Cedar runs underneath with a dry, woody structure that gives the sweetness some backbone. Staying power is strong, holding its fruit-and-praline character well after the fig and bergamot have faded into the base. Sillage keeps to a modest range, filling the immediate air around the wearer with fruit and praline. Worn from spring into early fall, Pulp suits days warm enough for its fruit-forward opening to feel like the right call, when heavier orientals would feel wrong for the weather.
