Our take

You smell the promise before you wear it: a salt-licked leather that’s been sunbaked on a dock, then rubbed with overripe strawberry and the dusty fur of some restless animal. Opens with a blast of tart, almost jammy fruit that doesn’t apologize for its cheapness — because it knows it’s about to get musky. The wheat and nutmeg dust the edges, while jasmine and camelia flutter in like a white sheet caught in an open window, caught between clean and filthy. It dries down into a woody, smoky patchouli with that persistent salt still stinging the skin, like clothes worn through a long summer afternoon and then a longer night.

The 3.02 sillage is honest: this is not a projector. It hovers close, a whisper rather than a shout, and after three hours you’ll be pressing your nose to your wrist to find it again. That might frustrate anyone who wants a beast. But S-ex is curiously intimate, a leather that has been worn soft, not strapped on for show. If you love salty, animalic, slightly synthetic scents that feel lived-in rather than lifted out of a box, try it in the sticky heat of summer. Skip it if you demand loud longevity or a clean departure. Is there a more awkward name for a perfume that never actually screams for attention? I wear it on a Sunday afternoon when I have nowhere to be but my own skin, and it smells like a secret I’m not going to tell.
